1. Summary 2. What's New?
1. Summary
This product bulletin announces the addition of a loopback terminator to active-active configurations for FAS3000 and FAS6000
systems and a change in how cluster failover (CFO) cables are
configured for FAS and V-Series platforms with the June 2007 Quote Tool
release. Also
added are two new cables for active-active FAS or V-Series systems that
connect through patch panels. 2.
What’s New? Loopback Terminator FAS3000
and FAS6000 active-active configurations will now leave the factory
with optical loopbacks
installed in unused down
ports and HBA ports. The loopbacks are being added to improve cold boot times that are not initiated with a take-over/give-back sequence. Note: The
loopback does not help with take-over/give-back times. The loopback part (X6521-R6-C) will appear as a line item on the customer quote sheet. The loopback parts are already an orderable item in Add Parts in the Quote Tool. CFO Cable
Configurations New 0.5-meter copper CFO cables are added to the
cluster configuration choices pull-down menu. The 0.5-meter
cables will be available whenever a FAS or V-Series active-active pair
is configured in a single cabinet. Two-meter copper cables will be allowed for
active-active
pair configurations that are in separate but side-by-side cabinets. The Quote Tool will
have the shortest
available 0.5-
or 2-meter
CFO cable selection. When selected the 0.5-meter or 2-meter copper CFO cables will be output
depending on whether a single cabinet or multiple side-by-side cabinets are
required for the configuration. Five-meter CFO cables will continue to be the
default for both copper and fiber-type CFO cables. The user will be able to
select Shortest
Available
as an option in addition to the other CFO cable types and lengths made
available in the pull-down menu. The new 0.5-meter
copper CFO cable part number is listed in the Product Information table
listed below. Standard Single Head
Configurations Standard FAS or V-Series single head configurations when
quoted with CFO software will output the CFO cables in Additional Parts and
Components instead of the cables configured as a line item with the system.
These cables are not connected to another system for testing and as such are
not part of system configuration. Therefore the change is to output
non-configured CFO cable part numbers instead of configured CFO cables. Patch Panel Cables Two new patch panel cables are added to the existing patch
panel pull-down
selection menu in the Quote Tool. These allow MTP to FC and MTP to MTRJ
connections to a patch panel for connecting active-active FAS
or V-Series system pairs. The new patch panel cables are listed in the Product
Information table below.
These new cables are also available in Add Parts. The new parts are listed in the
table below. Products need to be validated against the NetApp
Safety/EMI Regulatory Compliance List prior to order submission. The list is
available at PartnerCenter
Compliance Information. This validation is required to ensure that
products are being sold only in the countries in which NetApp has received
regulatory compliance certification. Standard NetApp hardware
services apply. Contact Information: Please contact your Network
